Kate Maruyama (she/her) writes, teaches, cooks, and eats in Los Angeles, where she lives.

She is the author of Harrowgate(47North 2013and Halloween Beyond: A Gentleman's Suit (Crystal Lake, 2022) and her novella Family Solstice (Omnium Gatherum) was named Best Fiction Book of 2021 by Rue Morgue Magazine. Her duo of novellas, Bleak Houses is launching here at Stokercon at the Raw Dog Screaming Press party on Thursday! It will be out officially this August 3. Her second novel, Alterations is due out from Running Wild Press in 2024. Her short work has appeared in Asimov's SF, Analog Science Fiction & Fact, Entropy, and Duende as well as in numerous anthologies including December Tales, Winter Horror Days, Gathering, and Halloween Carnival Three. Her short story "Jacaranda Park" is the winner of Uncharted Magazine's Short Story Prize in spring of 2023.

She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles, where she is now affiliate faculty and she is a lecturer in Creative Writing at California State University Los Angeles. She is a member of the SFWA and the HWA where she serves on the Diverse Works Inclusion Committee. She has served as a jury chair for The Bram Stoker Awards and twice as a juror for the Shirley Jackson Awards and currently serves on the board of Women Who Submit.
