Kate Maruyama (she/her) writes, teaches, cooks, and eats in Los Angeles, where she lives with her family.

Her novel, Harrowgate was published by 47North in 2013 and her new novella Family Solstice is out now from Omnium Gatherum Media. Her short story, “Akiko” is featured in Phantasma: Stories and “Crying Wolf” is featured in Winter Horror Days. “La Calavera” can be found in Halloween Carnival: Volume 3 and “The Sound” can be found in Accolades: A Woman Who Submit Anthology. Other short fiction has appeared in Asimov’s Magazine, Arcadia Magazine, Stoneboat and on Entropy, Gemini Magazine, Salon, The Rumpus and Duende, among others.

She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles, where she is now affiliate faculty with the BA program and teaches online classes. She coaches individually in writing fiction and non-fiction, and she is available for consult on manuscripts. She has served as a jury chair for The Bram Stoker Awards and twice as a juror for the Shirley Jackson Awards.

I teach novels and short stories and do developmental edits on anything from short stories to memoir to novel. Novel is my specialty. I love looking at genre fiction as it addresses social ills and teach a class called "American Horror Story" at Antioch University Los Angeles that teaches just that.
